Castaway paradise ipad2/13/2024 You can go passed him once inside the museum into the display rooms. I am a real life collector (fossil tree xylem) so I couldn't wait, I built the museum first!Īfter you re-build the bridge and build the museum donate fish specimens to Harrold. Plant crops and grow trees there before building the North Bridge and the Museum. In the long run, the most effiecient route is rebuilding the West Bridge first. The first step in getting the achievements then is to build the museum. (the bait costs more than you can sell the fish for).įishing is for the fun of it, to build up the exhibit at the museum and to get the achievements. You lose money on most of the fish you catch with bait. You can make money from fishing, but not near as much as from growing chili peppers or peaches. You can cast again but the food will be gone. Don't expect to make a second cast after the fish food is applied. It was just too far away!Īnother thing that is easy to learn the hard way is that if you take your bobber out of the water the fish food comes out with it. The fish never struck, I left it there for ten minutes. The fish was circling and you can see my egg fish food floating near the bobber. Here is an example of the one that got away. Without fish food pretty close, one fish length in front to actually hitting the fish works best.Ībout this far or maybe just a little farther if the fish is already swimming that way. On the other, obsticles get in the way.Īnother question is: How close does my bobber have to be cast to the fish to make it strike? This looks like a good place, it is on one side. You have the best chances, the bigger your casting area is. Obviously if you never get you feet wet (don't walk out in the water) you can't cast as far. Your ability to fish is influenced by where you position yourself. Wow look what I caught, that baby is worth some gems! Click on the upper bobber icon(not moving) when the lower moving bobber is in the center of the green area. If I click it now, I may not land the fish (it might get away). A bobber moving back and forth across a green target area. Now the fish is on the line and a new icon pops up. You can see that I am offered to buy fish food, but when the fish is that close you don't need it (unless you need something very specific that has a proven particular fishfood enhancment). The fish was swimming in a circular pattern (they often do) so I position the bobber (drag and drop) in it's path and then clicked on it. If I cast (click on the bobber) at the current position I will not get the fishes attention and it will not strike. The thing that took me longest to realize was that you can move the bobber position before the cast. There is a fish out there so I get the pole out of my inventory. It is better to go after one or two fish that are close rather than four that are way across the map.īy the time you get there they could have gone out of reach. I can use my mouse to look over the whole island and it's surrounding waters for fish. The best way to "hunt" fish is to use the magnifying glass in the lower left hand corner of the screen.Įven though I am standing by Polly in front of Town Hall I can see with this view two fish swimming near the channel and shore. You cannot expect the fish to swim to you from far away even if you use fish food. The first rule of fishing is:ĭon't cast your line in the water when there are no fish in sight. You probably saw several cruising around when your tutorial errands took you by the shore. Fish food is expensive! I don't recommend it until you have gotten at least 15 of the 32 species.įirst off we need to spot a fish. The only clue on fishing is a sign by the North bridge that says use fish food. One tutorial quest is to catch a bug and they give you hints. The tutorial really forces you to plant and water trees and crops. After you finish the tutorial you have a hoe, watering can, net and fishing pole.

Silenz and hades2/13/2024 Someone - or something - sent the signal that freed the subordinate functions from the benevolent GAIA. Sylens reveals something here which even Aloy doesn't yet understand. The ones who sent the signal that woke you.Knowledge has its own rewards, don't you think?" HADES was captured by Sylens, and in a condescending taunt to the rogue subordinate function, he tells it, "We've still so much to discuss, so much you never revealed. Yet a post-credits scene proved quite the opposite and, in the process, hinted at the greatest mystery of the series. MINERVA functioned to brute force the Faro Swarm deactivation codes AETHER and POSEIDON functioned to detoxify the atmosphere and oceans, respectively HEPHAESTUS functioned to manufacture terraforming robots at Cauldron sites DEMETER and ARTEMIS functioned to reintroduce flora and fauna genetic stock to the Earth ELEUTHIA functioned to reintroduce and raise humans through cloning genetic stock APOLLO functioned to educate new generations of humans and HADES functioned to reverse unsuccessful terraforming attempts if the new biosphere was deemed unsuitable for sustaining life.Īt the end of Horizon Zero Dawn, it seemed HADES was destroyed. The subordinate functions themselves were designed to slowly work to defeat the Faro Swarm and terraform the Earth. The AI was a central administrator which governed nine subordinate functions using a combination of intelligence, ethics and empathy. Thanks to Project Zero Dawn, however, the world's scientists had come together to create a chance of someday restoring the planet - the most advanced AI in all of human history, GAIA. Related: Horizon Zero Dawn #1 Preview Teases What Happened To Aloy After The Game No living species existed on Earth by the end of the twenty-first century. Dolphins and entire forests were consumed by the robots as fuel, and every last remnant of biomatter the robots could detect was obliterated until the planet was a barren husk of itself. All soldiers on Earth perished in a futile battle against them. The Faro Swarm was capable of exponentially replicating, consuming biomass as fuel, and hacking enemy military equipment to the extent that humanity could not mathematically hope to contain it.

She begins by examining the first stories and Doyles early. *These books were sent to me complimentary, but all opinions are my own. Killing Sherlock: Lucy Worsley on the Case of Conan Doyle BBC Two, 9pm. I am officially invested in Lucy, Jack’s, and Becky’s (Jack’s little sister) lives. Plus, I like the characters so much that I want to learn more about them and follow their stories some more. While they can definitely be read as stand-alone books they do refer back to old cases so it’d be nice to fill in the blanks. I definitely want to check out the other books in the series. Remember, Remember is the 4th book in the series and Die Again, Mr. The books I received are only 3 of the currently 8 book series. The stories are fun and not the kind of mysteries that you can figure out on your own, because in classic Sherlock fashion, the key details are typically hidden from the readers until the big reveal. Holmes the team tries to solve a few murder mysteries that all seem to lead back to an opium smuggling operation. In Remember, Remember, Lucy wakes up in the middle of the street with no recollection of how she got there or who she is! Follow along as she tries to figure out what is going on. Not to mention she is married to constable turned Scotland Yard detective Jack Kelly, who seems so swoon worthy!Īs mentioned above, The Crown Jewel Mystery is a prequel so in it American Lucy James is just arriving in London in search of finding out who her father is and gets caught up in a bank robbery. Watson is classic, of course, but I do love Lucy’s portions of the stories the most. Sometimes you’re following Lucy around and other times Watson is telling you what he’s up to. But, in the other two the chapters are told from different people. Remember, Remember is told all in Lucy’s perspective. But, I was so in to the stories and characters that I just couldn’t put the books down! Aside from The Crown Jewel Mystery which is a novella, the other two are your average sized novels in the 300 page range. Whereas, the last book I read it felt like a chore to read, I read these books in just days!Īnd while I breezed through these books, they’re not super short stories either. The Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery book series by Anna Elliott & Charles Veley includes books The Last Moriarty: A Sherlock Holmes Thriller, The Jubilee Problem, Death at the Diogenes Club, and several more. So as soon as I finished reading my last book, which I didn’t exactly love, I read all 3 of these books. I hadn’t had a chance to read these two when I was sent the newest story, Die Again, Mr. Authors Anna Elliott and Charles Veley (a father/daughter duo) pen the mystery series following Sherlock Holmes and his daughter Lucy James. A while ago I was sent two books from the Sherlock Holmes/Lucy James mystery series – The Crown Jewel Mystery and Remember, Remember. That’s because instead of delving in to one book, I am giving a brief overview of a book series. The Crown Jewel Mystery honors the essence of the revered originals while inviting us to embrace new faces, evolved relationships, and enthralling mysteries. My book review for you all today is a little bit different than usual. This novella-length prequel to the Sherlock and Lucy Mystery Series encapsulates the essence of classic detective tales, blending suspense with heartfelt human connections, while introducing readers to the rich tapestry of Victorian London. As Holmes pieces the puzzle together, he's summoned to thwart a heist at the very bank tied to the murder, and where he keeps his personal accounts.Ĭan Lucy navigate through peril to uncover the secrets of her heritage? Will Holmes, with Watson's loyal aid, unravel the web of deceit and prevent a heist? The Crown Jewel Mystery is a tantalizing dance of intrigue and danger, perfect for those who hold a soft spot for classic detective tales infused with heart and soul. A promising young man's life has been inexplicably snuffed out, leaving behind only the enigma of a mysterious woman with perplexing intentions. Simultaneously, Sherlock Holmes is embroiled in a peculiar case. However, fate has other plans as they inadvertently entangle themselves with genuine bank robbers, casting a shadow of grave danger over their expedition. Teaming up with her trusted friend, Johnny Rockefeller, they daringly attempt to unveil her past. Her painstakingly gathered clues have led her to a safe deposit box within the esteemed Capital and Counties Bank. London, 1895: American actress Lucy James, with the soul of an explorer, arrives in London to unravel the tangled roots of her lineage. In the heart of Victorian London, two intertwined quests for truth and justice come together in an enthralling tale of mystery, heritage, and fate.

Mellel 4 review2/12/2024 The Zettels are not organized in any way. Each Zettle is one single idea, and I brainstorm any questions that I have, weaknesses in the arguemnts that I’m noting about, etc. Attributes are added to these notes about people about dates they’ve been active in their fields. People contains notes with pics of authors, and snippets of info on them (usually taken from a wiki). The first is a container of citations, and the second a container named people. Each zettle is then linked to, at a bare minimum, two different places. But Tinderbox is a note taking, idea synthesizing playground that is hard to explain, intimidating to start using (just cause it has so many advanced features–but they’re hidden so there’s no need to be scared) but that is on a whole different level. You could very well stay within MarginNote. One nice aspect of Zettelkasten is that the tool of choice doesn’t matter so much. No matter how I play with my notes and new ideas, I create completely new notes in Tinderbox, adhering to the Zettelkasten approach, as mentioned above. This involves possibly using the mindmapping tools within MN or external mindmapping tools, usually MindNode, if I need to understand systems that were explained. The second step is to synthesise and assimilate the highlights and my rapid notes into a summary and proper notes. The point is not to loose focus on what I’m reading, while not forgetting thoughts that arise while reading. I consider it something like rapid logging in a bullet journal. I don’t put too much thoughts into my notes and highlight indiscriminately. I highlight and make, well, margin notes. I’m not sure if you’re asking about specific ways to use MN or about academic workflows in general. My current academic workflow, which is changing, shifting and developing all the time, might not be what you want to know. I’ve been using MarginNote for a few years. I’m writing my dissertation at the moment. Although the app comes with a price tag, we feel that it is justified, especially if you fall in the aforementioned category.Įditors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Mellel for Mac 3.3.8.I’m a masters student, studying applied linguistics. Mellel for Mac is best suited for students, academics, researchers, and other professionals that find themselves writing long papers containing a dozen text styles and hundreds of citations and references. When we tested the app's photo manipulation abilities, we found it to be lacking and not as fluid as Apple Pages. Not suited for everyday use: While you can use the app for less demanding work, we feel that its layout and lack of multimedia features don't make it the best choice out there. However, be prepared for some possible style inconsistencies. And if your colleagues are working with Word, you can still open and use the documents they send. There is also a very accessible option to switch the writing direction from right to left.Ĭollaboration-ready: If you're collaborating on your paper with someone else, you'll be happy to know that there is built-in support for tracking changes. You can choose a custom language in the app's preferences. International options: If you happen to be writing a document in another language, the app has got you covered. There is also support for character, paragraph, section, and page styles, including academic and professional ones that come preloaded with the app. ProsĪdvanced referencing and style options: The biggest claim to fame for Mellel for Mac is the degree to which you're allowed to use and keep track of references, citations, bookmarks, footnotes, author comments, etc. In addition to the excellent bibliography features, the app also comes with a self-updating table of contents, advanced style options, the ability to track changes, and support for a right-to-left writing direction. It comes with a free trial and features an elegant interface that is somewhat unconventional and might take a minute to get used to. Mellel for Mac lets professionals and academics write papers that contain a lot of citations, references, and footnotes.

Criminal linguistics2/12/2024 These features are usually related to grammatical structure and are deeply embedded in each person’s individual authorial style. It relies on correctly grouping together texts produced by the same author, by isolating textual features specific to that author. This task, carried out by forensic linguists, is known as “ authorship attribution”. This has hugely shifted the defamation landscape. Social media use has skyrocketed in the past decade, boosting the trend of ‘viral’ content. These online offences are made easy by the anonymity and reach allowed on social media platforms.Ĭorrectly identifying individuals who post threatening, defamatory or false messages online is of chief importance for investigators as it can help protect those targeted. The verbose wild west of the webĪnother example where linguistics intersects with criminals is found in the rapid increase in crimes involving digital communication. Such casual conversations are not a suitable test for language fluency. In the past, these defendants or witnesses have been treated as though they understood complex legal English simply because they could chat about the weather, or their family. People who speak English as an additional language sometimes don’t know their legal rights in situations such as police interviews. Gibson’s lawyer Michael Lundberg (pictured) told the ABC the payment wasn’t as large as he’d hoped. In 2018, Gene Gibson was awarded a total A$1.5 million in compensation by the West Australian government, after being jailed for a crime he didn’t commit. This neglect resulted in Gibson spending nearly five years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Police interviewed Gibson without an interpreter, assuming one wasn’t needed to assess his English fluency. In 2018, the Western Australia Court of Appeal overturned the conviction of manslaughter for Gene Gibson, an Aboriginal man with a cognitive impairment for whom English was a third language. Widespread ignorance on the vitality of forensic linguistics has led to some of the most egregious miscarriages of justice in Australian history. These non-technical interpretations are easy to conflate with the academic discipline of linguistics.īut apart from causing linguists a headache at dinner parties, does it really matter if people misunderstand what linguists do? Some people think this refers to a person who speaks many different languages, or is particularly fluent in their speech or writing. It comes down to how we use the word “linguist”. Ironically, a big problem for forensic linguists (and linguistics in general) relates to language. Shutterstock A widely misunderstood field Sociolinguistics is a branch of language study focused on the relationship between language and various groups in society. Yet the work done by forensic linguists seems to largely elude members of the public. Since the first known forensic linguistic case in 1953, all of the above abilities have proven invaluable in courts time and time again. This is because the variety of English they’re familiar with would differ, in small but notable ways, from native English speakers. For example, we can identify when someone from a non-English language background might misunderstand a question. Sociolinguistics, which looks at how language use varies across different social groups. We can recognise subtle differences in the sound of a vowel when produced by different speakers, or by speakers of different dialects and languages. Phonetics and phonology, which refer to the sounds of language. Semantics, which explores how speakers and listeners form meaning, such as when making sense of a written text Grammatical structures, wherein changes in punctuation patterns between texts can signal different authors Thus, linguists are uniquely placed to provide expert opinions on how language is used. Linguistics is the scientific study of language. Reading between the lines (and everything else)

Money dont sleep quotes2/12/2024 It's become something of a trend for child-free couples post videos about the perks of the time and money they have thanks to not being parents, pointing to the generous gifts they're able to buy and their freedom to make last-minute plans. A brief intermission tabs2/12/2024 Watch this space around Tuesday or Wednesday for a post summarizing the things we’ve discussed, and the beginning of planning for how members of community can get involved in (or spearhead) the things that interest them. Lastly, there are no intermissions before regular season overtimes or subsequent shootout. During the playoffs, the intermissions that precede the overtime period (s) are 15-minutes long. The intermissions take place at the conclusion of the 1st and 2nd period. Also, not all the committers had met in person before (and I’d never met Andrew or Peter), so it’s also a chance for us to just get to know each other a little. Intermissions are 18-minutes long for all NHL regular season games. Since when things like this come up in the IRC dev chat or in various forums there’s inevitably a point at which someone says, “We really need to have here to make a decision,” we thought it would make sense to get together and figure out where everyone stands on all these ideas so that we can move forward a little more efficiently. We all came for WordCamp Orlando (fun!) and are staying a couple of extra days to discuss the vision for WordPress in the coming year, the merge, canonical plugins, the site, community stuff, and all the other things that are important but that we never seem to have time to address.
